If we compare the whole bible, from the beginning to
the end, we can see that there is symmetry in it. And to be prepared for what
is to come, we need to be familiar with the beginning. The history, since the beginning
shows the desire of God when creating mankind, of being in communion with us. And
if we look to the book Revelation we notice that God’s plans are to the restore
fellowship He had with man, in other words, the story begins and ends in the
Garden.
“And he showed me a pure[a] river of water of life,
clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the
middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life,
which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves
of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” Rev 22:1-2
“And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden;
and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the
LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;
the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of
good and evil. And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from
thence it was parted, and became into four heads.” Gen 2:8-10
Genesis introduces us the bible and the plan of God,
it is the book with the principles of human race childhood, because it narrates
the beginnings of creation: of man, sin, redemption and the chosen people. God
begins His redemption choosing a people. The book can also be called seed-plot,
because there you can find the seeds to all of the great doctrines. Genesis
shows us how God established a nation to himself, and it highlights the characters that relate with His
plan of redemption trough the story, Abel and his blood sacrifice (Gen 4:4),
Isaac’s offering (Gen 21:11) etc, it also shows Jesus Christ as the Lamb known
before the foundations of the world and slain before it (Rev 13:8; Acts 2:23). Jesus,
the Lamb, the Center of the whole bible. Genesis presents Jesus as the seed of
woman (Gen 3:15), Sacrifice (animal skins) and new garments (Gen 3:21; Isa
28:20; Eph 4:24; Rom 13:14; Lev 7:8).
This book can easily be consider one of the most
important book ever written, because it traces the foundation to all bible
prophecy, the rest of the bible complements what Genesis started, for it is
part of a progressive revelation. Genesis is the only book with history of
creation and of the first two thousand and five hundred years of human
existence. Without it is impossible to understand the bible.
